About the Book
The stories that you will read speak to the stress, exhilaration and yes, even the humor, which comes with being connected to this “beating heart” of the American Democracy.
Since its inception in 1964, only a small fraction of those who have worked at the White House have been honored as recipients of the Presidential Service Badge. These recipients are considered the top 1% of the 1% of their respective branches of service. They are awarded the PSB for exemplary service to the office of the President. Those so honored are the only ones allowed to wear the Presidential Seal or “Coat of Arms” on their military dress or on their civilian clothes. There are only two exceptions: Uniformed members of the U.S. Secret Service and the President himself. Despite this high honor, the Presidential Service Badge is all but unknown to the general public.
As you can imagine, those who have received the Presidential Service Badge are responsible for countless acts of heroism gone unseen. The public has had a chance to witness the events of history through the media. These recipients were actually “in the room” when history happened.
From places big and small, they served the President with a singular purpose: to achieve their “no-fail” mission each day. Their humility is refreshing as each day pushed them to do even better the next. The lessons they learned during their service continue to guide them daily.
